Six tips to get the most out of your tote mixer.

If you’re seeing vibrant mulch one minute, the dull mulch the next, the fix might be as simple as brushing up on a few best practices for your TM100 or TM200. Here are six tips for a better mix from the experts in everything mulch colorant.

1. Practice first-in, first-out inventory management.

2. Prolong shelf life with proper storage.

  • Keep product out of direct sunlight.
  • Do not allow product to freeze.

3. Maintain the condition of your tote mixer.

  • Look at shaft alignment — it shouldn’t be bent.
  • Make sure the blades are free to move.
  • Ensure the mixer is securely fastened to the tote.

4. Choose the correct blade placement.

  • 330-gallon tote: Move blades down to the bottom of the shaft.
  • 275-gallon tote: Blades should be placed in a higher position on the shaft.

5. Check blades for clockwise rotation.

  • Because blades won’t extend when rotating counterclockwise.

6. Know when it’s time to mix product. And when it’s time to stop.

  • 60 minutes. That’s how long product should be mixed prior to use.
  • 4 months. That’s how often product should be mixed in extended storage.
  • 12 inches. That’s how low the colorant level can reach before the mixer should be stopped.
